URBAN MICRO CLIMATE
Climate change is impacting our cities as extreme weather events affect and influence how people live in, move through, and use the urban environment. This project explored how to make cities more climate resilient and to encourage active mobility and the use of outdoor public space across seasons and throughout the year. Students were challenged to respond to three thematic prompts: ‘urban oasis’, ‘deployable microclimates’ and ‘transient and dynamic microclimates.’ The final design projects explored a range of innovative strategies such as deployable structures, cooling fog systems, wind harvesting infrastructure, porous pavements, and green walls.
