Javier’s design practice focuses on sustainability where his design clients and stakeholders are human-nonhuman relationships. He emphasises human-soil relationships, which refer to the intricate dependencies and interconnections between humans and soil ecologies. He has designed a set of biomaterials and utilised additive manufacturing to create objects that serve as critical pieces or functional products. He works within the Soil Atmosphere Anthroposphere Lab among soil scientists, ecologists, chemists, and linguists. The collaboration with soil scientists, uses soil data to develop home-compostable materials. This practice aims to foster deeper ecological awareness and promote sustainable human-nonhuman interactions through innovative design solutions.
