Tropicool is a low-cost passive cooling screen designed to achieve thermal comfort in private houses situated in developing tropical zones. The design process engaged in the development of a module unit that would act at optimal thermal efficiency. This involved the modelling of geometry using parametric software, the analysis of wind flow dynamics and the testing of these forms using thermal imaging analysis. Ultimately the design seeks a marriage between high-tech and low-tech design solutions. It is envisaged that while the production of the moulds would employ 3D printing technology, the fabrication of the finished units and the construction of the walls would engage the skills of local craftsman.
