WEMI is an interface designed for holding hands with your loved ones. The design is a portable device that allows separated family members to play a simple interactive game when they miss each other. The device captures the user's hand movement and represents it in real time by a ‘breathing’ light, to give an experience of presence. A system of sensors enabled by wireless technology collects movement data and expresses it through vibrational actuators. The project investigates how haptic engagement can become a meaningful dynamic form which transfers implicit information. Creating a sense of being together that makes intergenerational and international interaction deeper for all parties.
