The studio asked, how can technology be used to ‘hack’ behaviour to improve and assist human performance? Informing the studio methods were theories around behaviour change and motivation within the field of psychology. For instance, goal setting theory focuses on motivating behaviour while social cognitive theory describes how social environments affect our ability to accomplish a task.

Behaviour change is not always driven by technology, but changes can be supported by new technologies. The technologies in our daily lives can subtly shape our action and thinking, becoming a medium for influencing and changing human behaviour. The studio explored how such applied changes in behaviour can be aimed at fostering desirable goals such as encouraging healthier lifestyles and sustainable consumption.
