In partnership with the City of Melbourne, the studio researched the myriad factors that foster the creation of a safe urban environment in the twenty-first century.

The studio embraced a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the issues of safety in the city. Students investigated the city on personal, social, spatial and technological levels. Through the synthesis of the design process, they generated comprehensive proposals that address the psychological, physical and technical realities needed to ensure a safe urban environment.

Students were innovative and future-oriented in their approach to the issues encountered throughout the studio. They developed new integrations of environmental design and IoT technologies to ensure the promotion of safety within Melbourne’s Central Business District.
