The studio explored questions about data through the lens of time, activated through conversations about how we engage with digital information in our everyday lives. Leveraging the public datasets from City of Melbourne’s Open Data platform, the studio presented a journey that took students through the process of information discovery, meaning-making and the consideration of the city’s public spaces and streets as a canvas in which to embed and embody digital narratives for the public.
Prototyping was an integral part of the process of exploring interdisciplinary design and technological concerns in the public realm. To this end, students immersed themselves in an intensive introduction to data processing, coding, physical computing and fabrication in realising their propositions as models for reflection and further conversation.
